I've always liked the little moments that happen between the things I originally set out to document. The conversations that start without anyone asking a question, the stories that come up while someone's showing you around, the seemingly insignificant details that end up being some of my favorite parts of the day.
I brought a camcorder with me when I traveled up to Massachusetts to spend the day with Pat Flynn. I didn't necessarily have a particular film in mind. I just figured there would be things worth recording along the way.
What follows is a collection of those moments, beginning with my commute from New York and eventually finding my way into Pat's classroom. He shows me around, tells stories about the various things he's accumulated over the years, and lets me photograph him standing behind a podium that once belonged to his father. Somewhere along the way, the classroom gives way to the car, and eventually the stage.
You can teach a man history, but you cant teach him to have heart.
